Herbal remedy. Contains anthracene derivatives - mainly hypericin, pseudohypericin; flavonoids - hyperoside, quercitin, rutin, isoquercitin, amentoflavone; xanthones - 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxy-xanthone; acylchloroglucinols: hyperforin with small amounts of adhyperforin; essential oils; oligomers; procyanidins and other catechol tannins; derivatives of caffeic acid, including chlorogenic acid.
It has a mild antidepressant, sedative and anxiolytic effect, as well as a stimulating effect on the digestive tract, blood circulation, and a general tonic effect.
It is believed that the antidepressant effect of the plant is due to the ability of its active substances to inhibit the reuptake of serotonin and other neurotransmitters, as well as the effect on melatonin metabolism.
Due to the high content of flavonoids, the plant has an anti-inflammatory effect. It was found that hyperforin inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus agalactiae. The efficacy of hyperforin against penicillin-resistant strains and methicillin-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus was shown.
INDICATIONS FOR USE
Symptomatic and reactive depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances. As an additional remedy for endogenous depression (especially in menopause), as well as for diseases of the lungs, stomach, intestines, gallbladder.
Outwardly: as an additional remedy for joint and muscle pain, as well as for hemorrhages and herpes zoster; for disinfection of wounds.
Hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy, lactation period, children's age up to 12 years.
It is assumed that St. John's wort in high concentrations can damage reproductive cells.
METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
About 10 g (1.5 tablespoons) of St. John's wort is placed in an enamel bowl, 200 ml (1 glass) of hot boiled water is poured, covered with a lid, heated in a boiling water bath with occasional stirring for 15 minutes, cooled at room temperature for 45 minutes, filter, wring out the remaining raw materials. The volume of the resulting infusion is brought to 200 ml with boiled water.
It is taken orally warm, 1/2 cup 3 times a day, 30 minutes before meals. The course of treatment is 2-3 weeks. For rinsing, use 1/2 glass of warm infusion 3-4 times a day. The course of treatment is 5-10 days. It is recommended to shake the infusion before use.
Allergic reactions: itching of the skin, skin rash, eczema, skin pigmentation, photosensitization (more often in HIV-infected patients), increases sensitization to animal hair.
