Pharmacological properties

Vitamin E. Has an antioxidant effect, participates in the biosynthesis of heme and proteins, cell proliferation, tissue respiration, other important processes of tissue metabolism, prevents hemolysis of erythrocytes, prevents increased permeability and fragility of capillaries; stimulates the synthesis of proteins and collagen.

Pharmacokinetics

When ingested, absorption is 50-80%; in the process of absorption forms a complex with lipoproteins (intracellular carriers of tocopherol). Absorption requires the presence of bile acids. Binds to alpha 1 - and beta-lipoproteins, partly with serum albumin. In case of violation of protein metabolism, transport is difficult. C max it is achieved after 4 h. Metabolized in the liver to derivatives having a quinone structure (some of them have vitamin activity). It is excreted in breast milk. In premature and newborn babies, its cumulation is possible. It is deposited in the adrenal glands, pituitary gland, testes, adipose and muscle tissue, erythrocytes, liver. More than 90% is excreted with bile, 6% - by the kidneys.

Indications for use

Treatment and prevention of hypovitaminosis. States of convalescence after diseases that occurred with febrile syndrome, high physical exertion, advanced age, diseases of the ligamentous apparatus and muscles. Climacteric autonomic disorders. Neurasthenia with overwork, asthenic neurasthenic syndrome, primary muscular dystrophy, post-traumatic, post-infectious secondary myopathy. Degenerative and proliferative changes in the joints and ligamentous apparatus of the spine and large joints.

Contraindications
  • Hypersensitivity to tocopherol;
  • severe atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries, myocardial infarction, increased risk of thromboembolism;

With caution

Hypoprothrombinemia (against the background of vitamin K deficiency - may increase with a dose of vitamin E more than 400 IU).

Use in pregnancy and lactation
The use of tocopherol during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) is possible only as prescribed by a doctor.
Special instructions

Prescribing vitamin E in high doses can cause vitamin A deficiency in the body.

At long-term use of tocopherol and / or the need to prescribe repeated courses of therapy is recommended to periodically monitor blood clotting indicators, as well as the level of cholesterol in the blood.

When taking at the same time with other vitamin-mineral preparations containing fat-soluble vitamins A, D and E, you should consult a doctor.

Drug Interactions

With simultaneous use, vitamin E enhances the effect of corticosteroids, NSAIDs, cardiac glycosides.

The simultaneous use of vitamin E at a dose of more than 400 mg / day with anticoagulants (coumarin and indandion derivatives) increases the risk of hypoprothrombinemia and bleeding.

With the simultaneous use of colestyramine, colestipol, mineral oils reduce the absorption of alpha-tocopherol acetate.

With the simultaneous use of vitamin E with cyclosporine, the absorption of the latter increases.

Usage and Dose

For oral administration, the drug is prescribed in the following doses:

In diseases of the neuromuscular system (myodystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), 50-100 mg per day (25-30 drops of 100 mg / ml of solution or 7-15 drops of 300 mg / ml of solution) for 1-2 months. Repeated courses in 2-3 months.

Men with impaired function of the sex glands at 100-300 mg per day (50-150 drops of 100 mg / ml of solution or 15-46 drops of 300 mg / ml of solution) in combination with hormone therapy for a month.

In diseases of peripheral vessels, 100 mg per day (50 drops of 100 mg / ml solution or 15 drops of 300 mg / ml solution) in combination with vitamin A. The duration of the course is 20-40 days, after 3-6 months the course of treatment can be repeated.

For skin diseases from 15 to 100 mg per day (7-50 drops of 100 g / ml of solution or 2-5 drops of 300 mg / ml of solution) for 20-40 days.

Side effects

Allergic reactions: possible itching, hyperemia of the skin

From the digestive system: diarrhea, nausea, gastralgia, dyspepsia are possible.
